Athena's believe that fast food does not mean it has to be unhealthy or laden with artificial colours, flavours and preservatives. Our philosophy is to only serve food which we feel is fit for ourselves and more importantly, our young daughter Athena. Nowadays too many food outlets serve what we believe are "food like" products full of artificial chemicals which harm us. We promise never to serve food with nasty added nonsense just real natural food which of course is tasty!
Our locally sourced fish comes from Direct Seafood caught by local night boats delivered daily (see our chalkboard in store for further details of which boat and where the fish was caught). We like the idea of supporting local and British fisherman.
We are proud to say, all our Cod and Haddock are sustainable. All our fish comes from well managed fishing grounds so we can protect the stocks of fish for years to come.
Our chips are made in house only using the finest British potatoes, usually Maris Piper, Agria or another variety grown specifically for making chips.
We fry with High Oleic Sunflower Oil which is an amazing oil shown to lower bad cholesterol and the risk of heart disease. It is high in unsaturated fat and low in saturated fat.
We use the All Natural Batter which unlike most batter mixes does not contain any MSG, preservatives, flavourings or colourings and is non GM and 100% British flour.
We serve all our food in eco friendly biodegradable boxes not only is this great for the environment it also keeps your food in the best condition possible. We offer our customers recycled paper bags which again are eco friendly.
We use the best Sarsons malt vinegar unlike most shops which use a malt flavoured product. Our salt is a natural sea salt as this is less processed and gives a much greater seasoning. Our sauces are always Heinz/Hellmann's and are made with free range eggs.
